Ronald's
Dirt / Ramp Jam...Pics
So we all headed
to Ronald's on Sunday to ride his new dirt jumps.
The jumps weren't
quite ready and we all just kept hitting them to get them ridden
in. There were 5 jumps that were linked via a 270 degree berm. So
much fun jumping into it. Can't believe I forgot to take a photo
of it.
By the end of
the day the jumps were really getting worn in. Next time we go back
they'll be dialed and you can be sure that the session is going
to be nuts. We gonna let everyone know when we going again so be
sure to join us next time if you didn't on Sunday.
The bowl/mini
was definitely the most sessioned. Devin noticed that he could hit
the wallride and corner pocket air out of it. He did this quite
a few times (damn photographers) and did it so smooth everytime.
Jordan was finding
lines only he could find. His mind is something else. Here's a über
perfect smith stall. This sunset just made for the raddest pics.
Storm is one
of Joburg's fast up and coming shredders and has really learnt how
to tuck into tables nicely. This tranny is pretty melow so airing
high is pretty tricky but Storm was firing out these beauties out
like this all day.
By this stage
it was so dark just getting through the section was hard enough.
Never mind tricking the last set. Nightrider No-Hander from Brad.
Keep an eye
out for the next Ronnie Jam. It'll be soon now that the jumps are
ready. The setup is seriously fun and you'd be a fool not to join
in the good times.
Dirt
/ Ramp Jam at Ronald's place this Sunday 20
July 2007
Ronald Stander
has sent out a warm word of mouth invite to all who want to session
his backyard this Sunday (all day). Ronald has been working hard
on building some awesome dirt jumps complete with a 270 degree berm
and Sunday will be the first time they get sessioned. For those
not feeling dirt there is also a concrete mini set-up which is rumoured
to have a bowled corner.
Ronald's place
is in Muldersdrift. Click
here for map. A bunch of riders have already
let us know they'll be there but the more the better so please feel
free to join us. Tomorrow (Saturday) we will be going through to
work on the jumps to make sure they are dialed for Sunday. If you
wish to join us tomorrow as well, then swing by the shop and follow
us there from 1pm.
Email or call
us for more info.
George
Skatelab Comp Video 18
July 2007
Our great companion
James aka Bob from West Coast BMX down in Cape Town put together
this video montage of the Jam that went down at Skatelab in George.
Looks like a good time was had by all but don't take our word for
it, check it out yourself.
Did I mention
Matt Macleod is too good? Apparently he was disqualified for being
just that, too good. The Riot's very own rider, Wayne Reiche walked
away the winner at the end of the day. Well done Wayne. Unfortuantely
he tweaked his ankle real bad on the trip home and will be taking
time off to heal up. Get well soon.
Black
Board Exhibition
This Friday
is the first ever Black Board Exhibition taking place at London
Calling, Joburg. Bands playing are The Slashdogs, The Vendettas
and Submachine. The idea behind the show is to reveal the works
of underground photographers and Tyrone Bradley will along with
Stan Kaplan be displaying a selection of photos. This show should
rock so come hang out. Click
here to view the myspace page.

Sunday
Sessions 16
July 2007
Sunday's suck
when you consider that Monday is just around the corner but one
thing they are good for is the street sessions. No cars, no people..
what a treat!
This Sunday
some of us headed to Emmarentia Dam to ride the banks there. The
tranny on these banks is pretty awkward to hit but that didn't stop
Wesley Brink from tucking some airs of it.
Brad didn't
seem to find the tranny too weird either. Here he is popping a fakie
table.
Greg had a pic
of this same trick at the same spot in his Locally Whipped interview.
Brad decided he'd show Greg he can keep up. Funny thing is Brad
never does barspins. You gotta love surprises.
King
Rat
Our very good
friend Mark Williams who moved to Canada a few years ago sent us
some pics (taken by Phil Jette) of him shredding his home turf.
We're so stoked to see Mark rippin it up. Thanks for the pics boi..
Guess what the
coloured things in the bottom right corner are and win.. nothing.
This whip is
from Mark's local trails. Mark always was known for his love of
dirt and it's great seeing him stepping it up on such a big double.
Rock On.
The
Riot Opening Video (by Jimmy Reynolds) 15
July 2007
Jimmy Reynolds
edited an online video of our shop opening for Blunt Magazine. Click
here or the image
to check it out.
Talking about
Blunt, be sure to get hold of the new issue hitting news stands
this week. In there is the Fox/Odyssey trip which went down in May
with Chase Hawk and Mike Aitken. Treats.
Congratulations
Greg...
For
placing 9th at NASS. Atta Boi! Against all the big names
in UK BMX our very own Greg Illingworth threw down the hammers and
got in the top 10, not that he cares too much for results though...
"Everyone was throwing triple whips like it was nothing. Kinda
felt like I was in a circus."
Greg is still
to ride Rebel Jam next month in Germany. We'll let you know how
that turns out. Go ride.

Update
The Riot teamrider
Greg Illingworth is currently traveling around Europe making his
way to Berlin for Rebel Jam. He sent us a message whilst sitting
on a beach in Caines just to let us know how good life is at the
mo.
Greg has been
riding a bunch on this trip and recently competed at the renowned
NASS comp in England, where he made it through to the finals. We
haven't found out his exact finishing yet but when we do we will
let ya'll know. Till then here's a snap of him at NASS. Rock On
Custom
Bike Contest...WINNER! 9
July 2007
And
the winner is... Albert Retief. Here is Albert's
bike.
As
you can see Albert really put a lot of effort into his bike. We
liked the way he used an original colour scheme combined with some
interesting stencil work. Especially around the handlebars. It was
his attention to detail that seperated his entry from the rest.
If you look at the front wheel you can see that he took the time
to strip and rebuild it. All the effort has paid off and now Albert
is walking away with the R500 voucher from The Riot. Congratulations
Albert!
Here
are the rest of the entries, starting with Hendri Breedt's bike.
Special mention must go to Hendri. It was a close call between his
and Albert's bike. To all the other entrants, thanks for entering.
We were really impressed with your efforts.
Next
we have Andreas Kollman's entry (his German heritage coming into
play)...
Below is Sean
Thompson's jungle edition Federal Hamilton...
Then finally
we have Johan Moolman's pedestrian friendly street warrior (respect)...
Shot to all
the guys for their entries. Keep checking the site for upcoming
competitions and specials. Rock On.
Sick
Nick Invitational...Update
Saturday
was a blast. The FMX comp was crazy. Those dudes really throw down.
Alistar Sayer won the comp and seemed to be on a different level
to the other riders. That's not to say the other riders weren't
impressive though. Sick Nick wasn't riding due to the fact that
he is still nursing his messed up knee. Looks llike he's gonna be
back in the saddle in no time.
The
BMX jumps Ronald built for the event were really fun. The last set
was seriously one of the funnest trick jumps we've had to ride in
a while. Here's Ronald enjoying his creation..
After manning the shop in the morning, Brad showed up and enjoyed
hipping into the FMX launch. Here's one of his tables.
DK/Oakley
rider Matt Macleod flew up from PE for the day and showed the crowd
why he's SA most renowned Dirt Jumper. He's just fires off the hardest
tricks like it's nothing...
...From burly
to tech or trail-style, Matt does it all.
Thanks to everyone
that came out, sure you had as a good a time as we did.
Sick
Nick Invitational 6
July 2007
Our
good friend (and one of SA's finest FMXers) Sick Nick de
Wit is hosting one of his awesome events this Saturday
7 July 2007 (Gates open at 9:30am). For this event Ronald
Stander built some BMX dirt jumps for the day and rumour has it
DK/Oakley rider Matt Macleod will be there. The
Riot and all their friends are gonna be having a dirt jam, so if
you in Joburg come hang out with all of us it's gonna be a party.
Damn
it's cold in Jozi. Bloody freezing in fact. Nothing like a good
ride to warm you right up though. Just got back from our Wednesday
"Monte" session and snapped these couple of pics. We're
pretty psyched on them..
Tim
Dell has dialed tables. This boy oozes style. Can you believe
he's studying to be a rocket scientist.. no jokes!
Oh
and he kicks ass at turndowns too.
If
anyone had previously read we had said this was Duncan Fox. It is
in fact Kyle Crafford. Our apologies. Well as you
can see Kyle sure knows how to throw a table.
Same
angle, same trick but this time by Gorilla.
And
the
curtains to tonight's slide show are provided by Brad Illingworth.
Odyssey
Winter Spine Session 2
July 2007
What
a busy weekend! On Saturday we did the Giba Gorge Demo (look below)
and yesterday we all rode the Winter Spine comp. The comp was really
small and laid back. Just felt like friends riding together, having
a good time but with some prizes.
Stuart
Loudon was a force to be reckoned with. Stuart rode super
smooth with technical lines that shouldn't have looked that easy.
His antics ended up getting him the best trick
prize for his barspin-tyretap to barspin back in.
Rock 'n Roll's
all-round super star Darren Van Wyk or better known
as D-Star was showing that the more he ages the faster he's gonna
be going. Can you say boost!
Chris
Barnes took home the Close But No Cigar
prize for Best Run. Chris rode awesome. 360 whips over the spine,
Truckdrivers and oh so close downside whip airs, Chris rode like
a champ and as always was a serious threat for the crown.
Colin
Loudon once again owned the show though. This pick is of
an opposite air opposite tailwhip. Colin took himself out at the
end of the comp going for a flair. This glamour model doesn't know
how to take things easy but at the end of the day that's what got
him first place for Best Run.
Shaka Bra...
Damn Right!
Custom
Bike Comp - NB. Please Resend Entries!!
Hey
guys, we know we were supposed to announce the winner this weekend
but unfortunately due to the theft of one our computers (which had
all the entries) we are now gonna have to do it on Friday. But most
importantly please would all those who entered resend their entries.
We apologise for this delay but believe us we are equally as irritated
as you.
Giba
Gorge Demo
On
Saturday we went to the opening of the Giba Gorge Mountain Bike
/ BMX race facility. The Mongoose/Red setup was there and a couple
of us did a demo on it. This place is really cool. It's like a bike
mecca and a rad place to hang out. There are some plans to build
some dirt jumps for the BMXers so when that happens this is gonna
be one dialed spot. Anyway here are some pics of the guys riding..
This
was the setup. The box is real fun and the quarter is just great
for blasting. Here Brad Illingworth lets it fly
with an Old School No-Hander.
Colin
Loudon is just one of those who can't take it easy when
he rides. Tailwhip 360 over the sun.
Here's Tyrone
Bradley putting in some table practice on the quarter.
Tomorrow is the Spine Session comp so if you in Durbs come hang
out. Peace
Winter
Spine Session 27
June 2007
Don't
forget about the all mini-ramp contest hapening at Wave House this
coming weekend. Wave House is known for having one of the best mini-ramps
in the country so you know guys are gonna be throwing down. There
is going to be a cash purse for Pro's and product hampers from Odyssey,
Wave House and Fox for the Am's. So if you are gonna be in Durbs
this weekend, make sure you don't miss it.
The
Riot Store Opening 24
June 2007
Today
saw the official opening of our store in Greenside. We have been
working on getting a shop open for so long now and we are so psyched
the day has finally come. Thanks to all that came out to celebrate
with us. Special thanks to Pro Ramps and Boogaloos
for hooking us up with the mini-ramp for the weekend.
Above, is the
view from the front entrance of the shop. Below, well as if we really
need to explain, is the inside view. The shop isn't fully complete
yet. There are still some finishing touches to be added but it's
pretty much done. We'll post pics when it's completely finished.
Should be soon.
After
some riding was done on the ramp it was time for some throw outs.
Throwing out free stuff is always a laugh. Watching dudes taking
each other out is something I never get bored of and today didn't
let down.
To
end off the day we all just chilled on the roof above the shop,
had some drinks and ate some food. Friends just hanging out making
each other laugh. The perfect ending to a great day. Thanks again
to all that came out. Rock On.
