National
Gum Day
26
September 2007
Cape Town has shit winters. So when a perfect spring day rears
it's face you know guys are gonna take full advantage. That's exactly
what happened this past long weekend at Gum Trails. Wayne let us
know just how good the day was...
Hey Boys,
Yesterday was an absolute ripper in Cape Town. All the locals got
together and just had a really awesome day of chilling, riding and
climbing trees. Our new Quarter is running a hundred percent now,
it is so much fun. We pretty much jumped the whole day and then
celebrated national braai day in the evening. It was a full moon
so we were basically jumping well into the dark. Here are some shots
that Kenneth snapped
Later Yo!!
Here's "Boet" with his rocket pack making the jumps all
systems go.
Wayne doing it just how we like it. It looks like Wayne has finally
got over his ankle injury. Nice.
This is Jason, one of the locals at Gum and someone you don't hear
or see too much of but as you can see he knows how to handle that
bike. Dirt Fufanu.
Jason again with a lofty table.
Another Gum ripper.. Ian Whittaker
The O.G. himself, Tobie Groenewald looking back on what it means
to still be shredding dirt in the over 30 club.
Wayne loves Iron Maiden but definitely has no fear of the dark.
Clearly.
The finer side of life.

Mr Smooth himself, Justin Lopes sent us this pic of him busting
a table at his local. No prizes for guessing where that is.
Along with his email he mentioned he's respraying his bike. Justin
has some creative flair and we're amped to see what he comes up.
We'll post some pics when it's done.
Custom
Ride

September 2007
Arno Ferrero of Pretoria was lucky enough to leave our shop today
with this beauty! Basically, it's a Fly Mosca 20.6" in Buddy
Orange with a Mongoose mixed '08 parts package.
We often build semi-custom bikes this way for guys. It works out
a lot more affordable (from around R4500 upwards) then building
a complete custom setup. Obviously, if you choose this route you
will not be getting the best of the best in terms of parts but you
do get some very decent stuff... Odyssey cassette hub,
sealed three piece cranks, full cro-mo bars and forks etc.
The best thing about these deals is that you get to choose the
frame, which is the most important part of the bike. This new Mosca
of Arno's is one of the best looking bikes that we've built in a
while and we thought it deserved a bit of exposure on our site.
Enjoy your new bike Arno.
If you like what you see here, give us a call and let's see what
we can do for you.

This past weekend Greg and Tyrone were doing demos at the Coca
Cola Dome for the SportEx show. Most of the old Kyalami ramps were
up and everytime you get to session them it's a good day. Here are
two shots of Greg that Tyrone snapped:
Above: Greg boosting a table. Below: Same trick
different angle. These quarter's are the best!

Seth
"Whitey" Petersen in Person
James Plumridge sent in this pic of Seth sessioning something,
somewhere in England. If you don't know Seth, he's from Cape Town
and is currently living in England, We can only imagine how "white
" he must be looking these days.
Diggin
in the Rayne
Rayne Younge sent us a few pics of a dirt jump he's been building.
He lives in Hermannsburg, which is somewhere in Natal and is the
only BMXer in the area. It's not easy to stay motivated when you
have no one else ride with let alone put a lot of
effort and sweat into something only you will ride. Anyway, we felt
inspired by his email and thought we would share it with you.
Thanks for the mail Rayne. Keep on shreddin.

The
Riot Jam
#7
03
September 2007
If you weren't at the jam you missed out! This was seriously one
of the best jams to date. Especially when you consider the registered
turnout of 46 riders when hardly any of these riders even ride dirt.
There was also the full mix of entertainment, from riding, semi-naked
girls, a naked guy, good music and fire, to the inflammable, car
and wrist wrecking paramedic Moo-Poo.
Click on the thumbnails below for full size pics.
The whole idea behind the jams is in creating fun events for kids.
That's why we only had a beginner and am class.
Beginners:
The beginner line was a basic yet fun 4 pack setup and we had 30
entries fighting it out for the product prizes on offer from Odyssey,
Fly and DK. This class definitely had the hardest slams. (Ever seen
a mid air scorpion? yeah, cringe!) But at the end of the day only
5 riders qualified for the finals and this is how they did:
1st - Steven Hodgson
2nd - Hendri Breedt
3rd - Emile Paulsen
4th - Shaun Van Appel
5th - Kondstandt de La Porte
Am's:
The Am contest was held over the main line. There were 16 riders
entered and the riding level was a significant jump from the beginners.
Once again the pack was cut down to 5 riders in the final. These
guys really put in all they had as they battled for the R3000 in
Riot vouchers and could have easily held it together in a Pro class.
Their results:
1st Kyle Kiewet
2nd Ronald Stander
3rd Justin Lopes
4th Duncan Fox
5th Storm Guiranovitch
Blunt Bonus Tricks:
SA's allround best youth mag, Blunt made it to the Jam armed with
a stash of 100 R10 notes. The Huckfest was anounced and riders that
hucked a trick got a note. The bigger the trick the more notes.
This is where things started get loose.
But best of all Jimmy Reynolds got it all on video...
Thanks to all that came out, you made the event the success it
was.
