Mike Aitken Benefit BMX Jam
A huge thanks to everyone that came out to the jam on Saturday. Thanks to all of you and our most supportive sponsors (Fox, [R]evolution, Empire Cycle Supply, Bam Bam, The Riot and Milan Sosic who kindly donated all the meat) we managed to collect R7500 for Mike. This far exceeded our expectations.

The turn out was amazing, from both riders and friends! The rain did come down at about 16:30, but plenty of riding was done before that... and bit after the rain too.

We had quite a few generous donations, as well as awesome support at the food stalls, "Give'r Mike shirts", the raffle (sorry it was so late though)... as well as an impromptu auction which raised an unexpected R400 or so!The JHB scene (and some awesome dudes from the Cape and KZN), pulled together for a great cause and did a fantastic job to raise these funds for Mike!

Just after sunset, the rain came down hard, and about 30 or 40 of us were left huddling under the [R]evolution gazebo and mini-ramp. Nobody seemed too worried and we just partied like we were stuck in a tiny club (Tokyo Star anyone? hahaha).

After about an 1 1/2 hrs, the rain wasn't letting up, so we shuffled along under the gazebo all the way to the shop for some shelter. As to the party that went down in the shop... well, let's just say Airbourne kicked off a RIOT! You should have been there.

GET WELL SOON MIKEY!

Mike Aitken Benefit BMX Jam
Tomorrow is the benefit jam for Mike Aitken at the shop to help raise funds for Mike. Thanks to [R]evolution and Empire Cycle Supply we'll have a mini ramp for all to jam on.

The idea is for everyone to have fun and raise funds for Mike's hospital bills as he is uninsured due to the nature of his career. Joburg's best DJ (DJ Melissa and The Family) will be setting the mood with her fine mix of rock 'n roll.

Entry Fee: R30.00 to ride ramp
Mike Aitken t-shirts: R120 (includes your entry fee)
Boerewors rolls, veggie dogs & cold drink on sale!
Product hampers from Bam-Bam, The Riot, Empire Cycle Supply, [R]evolution, Fox & Odyssey will be raffled off.
ALL PROCEEDS TO THE MIKE AITKEN FUND.

Please come and join us, even if you don't ride. This will be a fun get together with a great cause. Click on the flier for a larger view. If you would like to find out more on Mike's progress check out www.mikeaitken.com

Wee Ones Demo
Yesterday morning Brad, Greg, Tyrone and Tim went to a primary near Zoo Lake to a demo for the kids. The reeally rad principal cameup with the idea and the kids abosultely went nuts. Brad started jumping over them and before we knew it he had jumped fifteen wee ones. We only had a little kicker but man were the kids psyched.

Jay to the Lo
J-Lo sent us some pics of him down at the good 'ol green ramp.

Get Well Soon Mike
This type of news is never good but this one hits home real hard with so many of us knowing Mike on a personal level. This is taken from 50-50 BMX which are hosting a donations drive. If you wish to donate click the image.

Mike Aitken, who was injured on Sunday while riding with friends in Pennsylvania. Mike is currently in critical condition in the ICU at St. Luke's hospital in Bethlehem, PA. His wife and parents have flown from Salt Lake City, UT to be by his side.

Mike was rushed to the hospital early Sunday afternoon after over-rotating a 360 and taking a severe blow to the head. Emergency staff immediately sedated Mike who was reportedly disoriented and convulsing, he has not regained consciousness since.

A ct scan revealed that there is currently no swelling of the brain, although there is an area that appears to have been injured by the fall. Further scans show breaks/fractures in Mike's orbital bone, cheek, both sides of his jaw, as well as throughout his sinus cavities.

Mike is currently on assisted breathing, but is breathing on his own for the most part. He has shown some voluntary movement in his left arm and leg. His right side is currently only responding to pain stimuli, but doctors say that this is fairly common for an injury of this type and are hopeful about his recovery.

He is not currently responding when spoken to or asked to move his hand. But again, doctors say that this is common for this type of injury and are hopeful.

Mike could wake at any moment, or his condition could remain unchanged for days or even weeks.

Mike is strong, and we pray that he will find the strength to fight through this. We will try to update as we learn more about Mike's condition.

Like many professional riders, Mike's BMX career makes health insurance companies consider him too high of a risk, and he is deemed "Uninsurable". Despite multiple attempts to obtain health insurance he is currently uninsured. The donations that have been offered and support that has been shown are greatly appreciated.

We all love Mikey, and hope for the best.

Been lately getting my vert dawg on over here, been hitting up bay66 vert ramp every week. Got a good 7ft tabled air out of the beast last night, stoked! Will send some pics when can got an australian friend who boosts it like a mother as well so will get some shots of that.

Gona go ride harrow on the weekend if the weather is good, was supposed to be demolished in a couple of weeks but due to the financial situation of the banks and stuff over here the council cant afford it right now so harrows staying for another 5 years! Which is awsome cause everyone who comes across here needs to ride something like that, a proper 70s style skatepark!"

Slow Motion
Things have been way too quiet of late. No news to report on except that Tyrone is busy shooting photos for a Johannesburg scene report for Ride UK. We can't give away too much but here are two snaps, a behind the scene's if you will..

Above is Brad with a barspin and below is Brad's peg hitting Tyrone's finger (thankfully missing the lens) which made him take this photo.

That's it for the first post of October.
