Via The Backroads Update 2
Hey guys, sorry it’s taken so long for us to send a fresh update… We’ve been out of the country most of the time.

When we last checked in we were in the Drakensburg. Since then we’ve been to Ladysmith, Piet Retief, Swaziland, Barberton, Nelspruit, Mozambique, Swaziland (again), Richards Bay, Empangeni, and Durban.

It’s been amazing finding spots to ride and skate in towns where BMX and skating are pretty much non-existent… The people have no idea how to react and the spots are untouched. In Piet Retief Wayne did one of the biggest wheelchair hops I’ve ever seen! In Swaziland we found a stadium with some cool rails there that the skaters and Albert sessioned for hours, Tim also did a cool 180 over one of them. Other than that we kind just drove straight through to Barberton and Nelspruit.

At a small shopping centre in Braberton we found perfect rails but they had a big sign saying no skating or bike riding etc. We decided to try our luck… People came out of there shops just to watch!!! When I took a hard crash one lady said “Our local stuntman says that if you want to break your legs he’ll do it for you free.” Awesome! Despite the rain we managed to ride a cool little ditch in Nelspruit and a few other random spots.

From there we headed to Maputo, Mozambique. That city is crazy, it has the coolest buildings that were built ages ago but now they are horribly run down… this lead to some great riding spots. We spent one night there and drove north to Tofo. This was the relaxing part of the trip where we pretty much chilled on the beach for 3 days.

From Tofo we drove back down south straight into Swaziland and spent a night in a Game Reserve. On a short Game drive we saw a Rhino taking a slash that would easily compare with Victoria Falls. Our next stop was Richards Bay/ Empangeni, where we found some awesome street. Now we are in Durban and have already ridden a awesome pool and cool street.

Now we heading to the Transkei… can’t wait to see what we find there!

Justin Lopes sent us through some pics of the Brighties crew and a few guests. Holidays are in full swing now and the boys sound to be having a blast. Yeah!

Via The Backroads Update 1
In the last post we mentioned that some of our team riders were going
on a roadtrip… Well, Tim, Wayne, & Greg are part of a skate/bmx/ adventure around South
Africa, Swaziland and Mozambique appropriately named VIA THE BACKROADS.

The crew consists of 4 riders, 5 skaters, and one dedicated cameraman. The first stop of the trip was Bloemfontein, where Tim and Greg were to meet up with the rest of the guys (all from Cape Town). 100km out of JHB they broke down, and there original ride had to be towed back…Brad to the rescue… he dropped what he was doing to get Tim and Greg
to Bloem, and managed to stay for the party that night and the Sunday street session.

Here's what Greg had to say about the trip so far:

"Oh man, wow! It's only been 3 days and I think it's the best trip I've been on! Definitely some of the most amazing spots. Pretty much every skater and every rider is banging out whenever the opportunity arises. I witnessed Pieter nose slide a rail longer than the N1
highway! It was ridiculous! What really amazes me is how well everyone is getting along and how everyone feeds off each other. If these last few days are anything to go by… the rest of the trip is gonna be nuts! Oh, and big up to Anton and his sister for putting us up and showing us around.

The entourage

Pieter… Krooked grind – Bloem

Wayne… Curved wallride – Middle of Nowhere (you will not find this)

Tim… kinked rail hop… while some skeptical young dames watched on – Bethleham

Albert… Rail feeble – Bloem

Greg… Wheelchair hop – Bloem

Tim Dell Edit
Greg has been a busy man lately. He has been putting a lot of time into his editing. Here is his latest piece of art - it's a web edit he made of team rider Tim Dell for fellow sponsor Iron Fist.

On another note both Tim and Greg have just left on this years Via The Backroads trip. Keep checking back for some cellphone updates on that. The trip sounds nuts with the boys travelling 5000 kilometres in 23 days and will see them heading to Botswana, Mozambique, Richards Bay, Durban and all the way down the coast to Cape Town. It's set to be a belter!

Don't forget about all the new Eclat, WTP and Salt products we have in stock either. Check it all out on the products page.
