11 April 2009 Missing
Link Video and more Pics
Here is a clip of some of the highlights
of the Pro and Am finals at the Missing Link comp. We also got some
more pictures from Jacques Fourie, a huge thanks to him.
Riot team
rider Jorad Anthony broke his ankle a few days ago while riding
at the Brightwater skatepark. He was messing around on a couple
of ledges when things went wrong. While this will keep him off his
bike for a while it sure as hell hasn't stopped him from partying...
08 April 2009 Skinny
Jeans in Stock
We are now stocking black skinny jeans. They
are made by Dufras, designed and tested by BMX riders in South Africa.
They have the right tightness around the legs and becuase they were
designed for guys they have room where you need it! With a 2% stretch
they are comfortable for riding and chilling. The stretch also means
they don't tear as easily as your normal skinnies. The jeans were
tested for about 6 months by riders and as far as i Know none of
them ripped. These are by far the best jeans I have worn. We have
sizes 28,29, 30, 32, 34. To top it all off they are only selling
for R295!
Soldier
Riding in Iraq!
Stuart Bird, from George, has been working
as a soldier in Iraq for the past year or so. He
always rode BMX, but when he went over there he obviously couldn't
take his bike and had no apparent reason too... until now! He started
missing his bike more and more as the months of war went on and
came up with the idea if building trails at his army base. The powers
above gave him permission and so his mind ticked more rapidly. On
his recent holiday home he met up with us in Cape Town at the Pro-X
event. This must have convinced him because a few weeks later I
got a mail from him asking us to send him a bike. At first I though
it was a joke but soon realised it was for real! We sent him a We
The People Trust plus all he would need to maintain it. The Riot
does not condone war but it is so awesome to see such a dedicated
rider. The pics are not great but I'm assuming some random soldier
took them with a normal point and shoot.
One sweet bike rack!
This is halarious!
How many jumps could you build in that space!
After not riding for so long and still having that sort of amazing
style!!!

April 2009 New Riot Shirts & Glamour
Glasses
We have
new Riot shirts in stock designed by Tyrone Bradley. The pic on
the shirt is of an upside down burning car... not very clear in
the picture. They are going for R150 and come in small, medium,
large, and Xlarge.
We also received stock of these glasses from Colin Loudon that
he buys and paints in his spare time. Get your pair for R40 or get
a FREE pair with any order over R500!
Shop
Has Moved!
That's
right, the rumours are true. The Riot has moved from Greenside and
will now be run from home. We will opperate as mail order and delivery,
we live accross the road from Brigtwater Commons (Boogaloos Skatepark)...
so we can always drop your orders off there if you need. We still
offer services and other labour.
Most
of our sales are mail order and it made no sense to have the retail
space. The move also means we can now focus on some other ventures
of The Riot that we want to get into.
You will
no longer be able to get hold of us on the shops number (0118883040).
The new number to call is 082 922 5555 (Greg) or email brad@theriot.co.za
Greg
Illingworth Edit
The maker
of Unlesh The Fury 1 & 2 , Jimmy Reynolds, has dabbled into
the BMX editing world once again. After many years of working in
the (normal) TV/Film industry Jimmy decided to put together a riding
edit of Greg Illingworth.
Chase Beynon sent us some pics of Tim, Devin
and Buddy he took at the Greenramp the other day.

April 2009 Missing
Link Results
Once again Justin Boniface and the rest of
the Boogaloos team managed to put on an amazingevent!
The turn out was great for Am and Pro which meant the competition
was set up to be extremely heated. Just making it into the finals
in both classes was a feat in itself. With the venue being Menlyn
Shopping centre, one of the biggest malls in SA, it was a given
that the crowd would be huge and noisy throughout the entire day.
The day started off with all riders having an open session on the
park to warm up and figure out their lines for the comp. As soon
as all entries were in the ameteurs had the park to themselves for
a final practice. All the riders were split into groups of two and
each pair had a a 2 minute run. From this the 8 riders with the
highest score progressed to the finals, which was set to take place
right after the Pro qualifying.
Justin Shepperson had some amazing lines in Am qualfying but some
how didn't manage to make the top 8 for finals.
Reinhardt secured himself 3rd place in Am finals with bangers like
this 360 table. 1st place was so closely contested for by David
and Hannes. Both guys delivered amazing runs and huge tricks thrown
in the mix. Some stand out tricks were David's 720 onto the box,
540 on the 8ft quarter, Hannes' no hander over the spine, no hander
to fakie on the quarter and a table to turndown over the box.
David showing he has tech skills to go with the bangers. Pedal feeble.
Hannes was doing stylish tables all day.
Top 3 Am's 1st Hannes
2nd David
3rd Reinhardt
Devin Tosselli was doing some of the best 360's in the business
but still narrowly missed out on a top 10 qualfying run to make
the Pro finals. This was a good indicator as to just how high the
level of riding was going to be in the finals.
Leroy rode absolutely amazing in his qualifying run, and impressed
everyone with just how fast he has progressed since last years event.
Unfortunately a couple of crashes meant he wouldn't be able to take
his spot in the final. This was not all bad though as it meant 11th
place qualifyer Kyle was pushed up into the final. He definitely
made it count, doing some of the best tricks of the day.
Paul was once again on fire with all the bike control in the world.
He did a bunch of technical lip tricks but also threw in a few big
ones. One of the most standout tricks of the day was his abubaque
on the 13ft roll in!!!
The Riot team rider Tim Dell did some awesome 360 combo's and rode
with his usual amazing style.
There was even a posse of riders who came up all the way from Port
Elizebeth. This is David Rigby with a banging backflip. David also
did a double barspin from the spine to the box landing! This is
definitely one guy to watch out for in the future. Ross Brown, another
PE local, rode amazingly in Pro finals too. Ross did huge no handers
on the quarters, a truck driver over the box and a bunch of technical
tail whips... I'm sure he would have placed if he hadn't gone down
on a double whip.
Greg Illingworth had a few big tricks in his final run but wasn't
quite good enough to hold of the Loudon brothers from Durban. Colin
Loudon, in his first contest back after a knee injury that put him
out for 6 months, blasted around the park like he never spent a
second off his bike. He did huge tailwhip transfers, opposite tailwhips,
backflips etc. His younger brother on the other hand did about a
thousand tricks without putting a foot wrong... until a massive
720 where he dabbed a foot down and whacked himself where it hurts
most... Stuart impressed everyone with a foot jam on the roll in
and plenty of bar spin variations.
Top 3 Pro's
1st Stuart Loudon
2nd Colin Loudon
3rd Greg Illingworth
Check
back in a few days for a video of the Pro and Am final runs...
