SKATELAB COMP GEORGE | CONCRETE ASSUALT | JORDAN INTERVIEW | CONCRETE ASSUALT REPORT | FOX PRO AM DIRT JAM | COLIN LOUDON SPEAKS

28 July 2009

Colin Loudon Speaks
.

Colin has kind of been under the radar for a few months, but has had tons going on. At the moment he is up in Joburg riding everyday and getting ink... so I decided to grill him about a few issues including his new bike sponsor, the up coming Fox comp and what his plans for the rest of the year are

So, You’re on GT now right?
Yes my outjie..thats true..i rode the first half of this year without a bike sponsor and by june my bike was real mingin and was just feeling horrible …everything was either tweaked or bent from hacking down escalator gaps and other glamorous things..Neil from omnico offered me a spot on GT and flow for snafu parts so I decided to go with it and its all been working out so far..

How does the bike ride compared to your Federal?
I mean..as far as bikes go its probably the best feeling bike ive ever ridden so far(hasn’t dented yet, which is a shocker for me)..I'm really stoked on being pumped on it…it’s a GT calafia frame.. (I think they had Dave Dillewaard put input on it) it's 21” top tube with a 75’degree headtube..short back end..so its exactly my kinda setup..

I also noticed no brakes… what’s up with that?
Riding was feeling a little stale and I was doing too much tire tap tech…a 6hour car drive with a bunch of weasel fiends made me wanna try something new.

What have you been up to lately? Seems like you’ve been underground for a little while…
I have been a little quiet cus Ive spent most of the year at home cus the Durban scene is pretty nice loose at the moment…and it also saves a lot of cash for trips(and for a car which I havnt bought yet).. I also didn’t expect to be riding so soon after knee surgery last year..
So in between going on bizarre riding missions with wors, making sickining music with childrens toys..tag team boxing fights at joe kools with my brother..watching Trace music channel.
I've bin really busy building with the dirt park at giba gorge where they’re going to be hosting the fox pro/am jam in august..

Well talking about Giba, how have you been involved with the up coming Fox Pro Am?
I just pretty much had to come up with the format for the contest and make sure that the trails will be smoother than corbin dallas in the 5th element. And that the shebeen will be open till late..

Can you give us a little heads up on what the format is going to be like?
Basically theres 10grand in total in the pro division to win..and a ton of product and clothing prizes for ams..
The course has so many different lines we decided we’d make the contest more of a jam to make it less stressfull for some people that buckle under the pressure of contest runs.
There will be a 2hour jam session for 1st 2nd and 3rd best runs..
As for sub events…A high jump.. a dirt quarter high air.. best trick.. nose dive 3 looseness..
Most amount of barspins done in one jumps.. most amount of threes done in one line..Best flip variation…best 3 variation..most clicked turndown.. wall ride best trick… rail/ledge best trick .. and more to be announced.. so the stunt warriors can start training to bring home money!
Wow, that sounds pretty nuts. You got any plans for the rest of the year after the comp?
Hopefully pass my license by the end of the year.. make interesting clothes .. film a lot more for the fox forward show…finish my back yard ghetto plaza.
Do one or two web clips.. and study part time till December so I can do a lot more international travel next year… poached egg dregs

Cool, good luck with that.
Thanks my bruiser..im on a train

FOX BMX Pro Am Dirt Jam

Fox have come to the party again by putting on one of the biggest BMX comps of the year. Second to Red Bull Soweto Sessions this will be the biggest prize pool for a BMX comp in SA. Fox team rider Colin Loudon has been working really hard to make this event happen... from the planning of the comp to building the course. The weekend not only promises a good comp but also some crazy partying considering most guys will be camping at the venue. Here is the flyer.

As you can see the event is co-sponsored by The Riot, SNAFU, and Monster Energy so you can be sure that there are going to be awesome prizes for the AM's too. In the next few days we will be interviewing Colin Loudon on what he's been up to, the Fox Pro Am , and... his new bike sponsor....

Concrete Assualt Results and Pics

Once again the guys at Boogaloos Brightwater managed to put on an awesome BMX comp. There were tons of riders there bright and early all eager to get things done. The day started off with the under 14 category. There were only about 7 riders that enetered this class but they all went all out aiming at a top three finish.

U 14
1st - Byron Blignaut
2nd - Matt Purrey
3rd - Julian Van De Merwe

Best New comer/ youngest, smallest rider ever-
Jonty Crow

There was a huge entry list in the open class and everyone was fired up to take their share of the prizes. Here are a few pics of the opens.

Angelo Nel. No Hander

Wesley Borain clicked turn down all the way into 4th place.

Wes again with a sweet hip table

Levi "Machete" Fenton had tons of awesome footjams all over the park.

Justin Shepperson once again showed his consistency and massive list of tricks. Hip No Hander

Hannes Van Rensburg is definitely one rider to look out for. He did twice as many tricks as most of the guys and with awesome style. This is an BUNNYHOP invert!!!

After all the runs were over we ran a 20min best trick jam session. Some crazyness went down here! Hannes 360 out of the park. Andy's 540 and 720 attempts... and many more awesome tricks, but at the end it was Tyrone Kelly that took it with some awesome frecoaster techinical moves. Among many cracy tech jibs he landed a pedal feeble to long fakie to footjam whip on the bank.

OPENS:
1st - Hannes Janse Van Rensburg
2nd- Justin Shepperson
3rd- Andy Kollman

4th - Wesley Borain
5th- Tyrone Kelly

Best Trick:
Tyrone Kelly

The Riot put a little hamper together to give to a rider that really stood out but didn't quite manage to get into the prizes... and this went to Levi Fenton.

Well done to all the guys that competed and a huge thanks to Boogaloos for putting such a cool evnt on. Look out for more oics coming soon.

16 July 2009

Jordan and Fran (drummer of Pistol Whip 45) dropped by today to hang out... When these two are around strange things tend to happen. Fran decided to interview Jordan for the website. So without any further hesitation I present to you... The Jordan Anthony Intreview.

Jordan, how many times would you say you do back flips in a day?

Are you asking it literally or metaphorically, if metaphorically then yes, I do back flips often, I would say about 9 or 11 times a day.

I saw that you changed your bike up, what’s the best mod you have ever done to your bike?

This one time, Jimmy and I were trying to save weight on our bikes and then we thought the best option was to put give our bikes liposuction by completely removing the rims, spokes and tires, we simply simplified the anatomy of the bicycle by riding on our hubs, speed was a no, fun was a yes. We could only move small distances and ride tiny ramps, as our hubs were not 20 inch.

Do you ride alone like a lone wolf or always with people like the guy who hunts wolves?

I always ride alone! Or at night only with Greg, or in the day with society.

How often do you put there and does riding increase your chances to do so?

I would love to tell the truth but I might upset some of my fans, does that answer your question with notes of knowledge?

Favourite thing to think about while riding and how you would portray that in your riding?

I do like to think about sex while I ride and I portray this on my two wheeled endeavour by basically riding like im having it off all the time with my bike.

How does the recession affect your riding and your views on the economy of BMX?

Well when im at the park there is like a thick cloud of hatred, so the parks aren’t happy anymore and that makes a shit atmosphere to ride in, on the positive there are way more shops and shit that have closed down making more street spots available that aren’t a bust. The main problem is Jade the singer from Pistol Whip 45 .

Who would be better on a bike, Mel Gibson or Luke Skywalker and why?

Obviously Luke Skywalker that guys a fucking Jedi yo!

If you could play any instrument whilst doing a footman whip?

Firstly foot jam whips are so last year, and if I had to play one, it would be something queer like the electric recorder.

Where’s your favourite spot to throw it down?

At the mo, I would have to say the one and only olive lounge on a Thursday, as my good mate D.R would say, “Thursday nights are for people who cant wait for the weekend and now I cant wait for Thursdays so im partying hard on a Wednesday.”

Who do you look up to in riding?

I look up to a guy called Tyrone Kelly! The kid is a genius in every aspect! Just look at this photo that portays his awesomeness!

What you do last night?

We went to a maniacs house to drink like frat boys, then decided to hit the gay bar and get dudes to hit on us for free drinks, I was like totally rubbing myself up against this beef monster with a label in my hand and he just looked at me and said in a really light voice “you would make a beautiful gay guy but the black label in your hand gives you away,” I just whispered in his “ well there go your chances” and kissed him on the cheek…

When life gives you lemons what do you do?

Aah I just jizz on the spot. Then take that jizz and impregnate the lemons face off.

Where should girls and boys apply to date you?

Just add me as a friend on face book, then write on my wall so no-one thinks things are going on, then start messaging me secretly then we poke each other a lot because we are kinda in a weird pokey pokey way attracted to one another, ill look at your photos then decide if you make it threw to step two. Step two is looking for your bikini or board short shot if its glamtastic then you go to step three. Step three being I ask around about your rep and if you skanky then their aint no hanky-panky, but we can kiss, cos im a great kisser. It’s just a taste of what you will never have… I love you all. Add me?

Skatelab Comp in George

Skatelab is the only skatepark in George and recently changed ownership. This past weekend they hosted their first BMX comp under the new owner, and I can safely say it was a huge success. Especially considering they had no huge sponsorship or anything. A large part of the succes was because so many guys from all over the country made an effort to get to George for the weekend. There were huge crews from Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, and even a few guys from Durban and Joburg.

Wayne Reiche was back on his bike for the first time since he broke his foot at the Red Bull Soweto Sessions and he was killing it in practice and prelims. Unfortunately in his second prelim run he stomped his recently healed foot while trying a 270 downside whip... this put him out for the rest of the day. On the flip side, this meant he had time to take some amazing pics... like this little gem of Buddy doing a nac nac on the mini ramp after the comp.

Buddy boosting a huge no hander mid run.

Buddy blasted this mini all day. Sunset table.

David Rigby from P.E. came out swinging in prelims busting huge over the box straight away with tricks like this superman double grab!

David again with a stretched superman.

Unfortunately we didn't get many pics of the guys that rode Am but Wayne did Jardin doing this barspin.

Jason, big no foot can. Jason rode really well the whole day and was throwing dow some crazy combos on the box... like a backflip on and 180 into the landing!

Ross Brown from P.E. floated some of the best 3's I've seen in a long time. Ross' riding is really coming on and it's just a matter of time before he takes 1st spot at a big contest.

Stu Laing is another PE cat that made it down.. the man has flow.

Malcolm Peters was riding dialed as usual... spinning and whipping both ways like it was nothing. 1 foot table.

Malcolm has some the best 3 tables in the business.

It was tricks like this opposite downside whip that landed Malcolm in 3rd place.

Colin Loudon really is back on track after his knee injury. He was going higher than anyone on this quarter... while doing lookbacks like this.

Colin Loudon whipping the box right into second place.

At the end of the day Greg managed to put a decent run together in finals and walk away with top honours. Lookback.

Am Results:

1st Mathew Silo

2nd Ali Pepler

3rd Rudi Erasmus

Pro Results:

1st Greg Illingworth

2nd Colin Loudon

3rd Malcolm Peters

The riding at this comp was absolutely amazing from the Am and the pro side. A special mention must go out to Malcolm that rode Am for his massive 360 drop off the mini ramp (unfortunately destroyed his front wheel). Well done to the guys that organised the event and I'm sure everyone is looking forward to next years comp there.

The day after the comp a few guys managed to go ride some street spots in George before they headed home. Here are a few shots from trhat ride. Thanks to Stuart Brid for taking us around and showing us not only rad riding spots but awesome parties too!

Arty photo, Greg Ruben wallride

Same trick different angle.

Greg, wallride to flat.

No one was really sure if this set up would be rideable... until Jason started blasting around the wall. Soon Wayne got in on the action and nailed this curved wallride gap to wall manual thing... it shouldn't be possible but that is what makes Wayne who he is I guess.
