April 2010 My
Culture Resurrection Jam 2010 Report
This past weekend saw the
2nd My Culture Resurrection Jam. The venue was the same as last
time, Hartbeestpoort Holiday Resort Skatepark. The BMX part of the
event took part on Saturday 24 April and the weather was absolutely
terrible for almost the whole day! As it was around Joburg woke
up that morning, saw the rain, and made othewr plans for the day....
After a few phone calls to the organisers to find out how it was
looking, The Riot crew decided to take the chance and head out there....
we were not disappointed!
First thing we saw was a bunch of people blowing water of the park
and others drying water up with rags. And then... boom! Riders were
all over the park shredding. It was a little cold and due to the
wet park taking time to dry some guys didn't really feel warmed
up enough. That's all part of riding comps though.
The Am contest went off first and you could soon tell that a lot
of the guys were hungry for the podium. It was pleasing to see so
many guys going off on the box jump, backflips and big 360's were
happening in almost every run. It would have been nice to see a
few more riders enter, but it seems like a lot of Joburg riders
are a little scared to ride comps... Some guys didn't come on account
of the weather too. None the less, the Am's that did ride really
put down some serious runs as you will tell from the video.
The Pro comp started almost as the Am's finished. Most of the riders
focussed on the box jump during there runs, with exception of a
few creative lines from guys like Ray Malinga and Paul Soderlund.
The box jump really did get a good working with tricks like 360
whips, backflip turndowns, double whips, 360 no handers, and tons
more.
The organisers really need huge respect for pulling this off with
such success. Well done to evryone involved and thank you for putting
on another sweet BMX contest. The Riot has put this little video
together of all the highlights from the comp and check out the photos
below.
Ricky Rodrigues with his first ever backflip! He walked away with
2nd in Am's
Byrone Blignaut steezy lookback
Byrone Jones - 360 right into 3rd place Am's
Snoer has a snor and he can do sweet inverts.
Steven Powell - unturndown
Alex Shapiro! Winner of the Am comp. Alex threw down some banging
runs and a personal highlight for me was his Tuck no hander to ET.
Nice one bruv.
Ridaz!
3rd in Pro Colin Loudon - 360 lookback
Colin again - flip turndown
Jacques Fourie - extra crispy lookback
Leeroy Wildschutt tried a couple of front flips but blew off on
the landing. Seems he needs a slightly bigger box and he'll have
these every go.
Paul Soderlund - Abubaque on the vert ramp. Paul is super creative
and did lines that noone else saw at all.
Ray Malinga - Style comes too naturally for him! Hip table
Tim Dell - Turndown
Jordan Gin was on a mad mission. He did some of the nicest 3's and
3 combos... 2nd place Pro! He also did a rediculous line that won
him best trick... watch the video!
Stuart Loudon - 360 table
The Winner in Pro! Malcolm Peters with an opposite downside whip!
Malcolm does 360 tailwhips as easy as most people do Xups.

Thanks to all the sponsors and all the guys that helped on

Megatour 9 DVD's In Stock!
Late last year you might remember
that Greg went to America to ride for Mongoose on Props Megatour
9. Well it's taken a little while for us to get hold of some stock
of the finished product but finally they have arrived! The DVD is
packed with tons of tech street riding, some park shredding, and
bad ass gaps. You can pick these up for R220 exclusively through
The Riot. Call 082 922 5555 or email sales@theriot.co.za
Here's the trailer for the video and some pics of the DVD cover
itself.
I know Pro X was quite a while
ago and The Riot was there to film for a web video. Unfortunately
I didn't have enough time to get the edit done before I left for
Egypt. As soon as I got back the edit was going to get back...
until Colin found this rad video from Fox online. This video has
pretty much everything that went down during the comp and pretty
much gives you a good idea of how nuts it was! Thanks FOX!
Etnies are giving away a pair of Aaron Ross' new signature shoe along with a bunch of other Etnies apparell. To find out how to win check out this video of Etnies team rider Tim Dell.
