July 2010 Riot Jam 9
Results
Once
again The Riot Jam has blown all expectations. Over 100 riders came
Urban X skatepark on Saturday 10 July for Riot Jam 9 on an awesome
winters day. Of those riders around 60 entered the contest spread
over beginner, amateur, and pro. Tons of spectators also came to
watch the riding and were treated to product throw outs thanks to
Nokia, GT, Mongoose, Snafu, Fox, and of course The Riot.
Right after beginner prize giving we tossed out some product an
let the carnage commence.

I have never seen so much support for a beginner comp before. There
were about 23 riders and the crowd was cheering super loud for all
the riders. No matter how small the trick was, the spectators were
going crazy just seeing these little guys pushing themselves. I
look forward to seeing these guys stepping up to Am as soon as they
ready.
Here are most of the Am entries before their runs started.
The amateur comp is always hard to judge as most of the guys are
at similar skill levels. A few standouts that didn't make the podium
were definitely Ricky Rodrigues, Donovan Shaw, Justin Shepperson,
Matt Purves and Hannes Jansen Van Rensburg. These dudes all rode
well and could've easily been top 3 if their runs went a little
better. But at the end of the day, the guys that put it all together
and impressed the judges the most in Am were:

Kyle didn't stick this flair but he came pretty close and I'm sure
he"ll have it at the next jam.
Donovan Shaw - 360
Justin Shepperson - Tbog
Justin Shepperson - Tuck no hander
Matt Purves - Turndown
Byrone Jones Turndown
All eyes focused on Steven as he does an unturndown of the box.
Duncan Fox - Table over the box
Right as Am finished we went into the highest bunny
hop competition which is always interesting as the crowd gets super
amped and no one really knows who's going to win until it gets down
to the last few riders.
Kyle was right up there at the end.

Chris Barnes wins!

Next up was highest wall ride and it was a massive battle between
Kyle Kiewet, Buddy Chellan, and Greg Illingworth. The insane noise
from the crowd every time someone went higher coupled with the R1000
up for grabs pushed these guys to ridiculous heights.

Buddy Chellan walks away with R1000 for highest wall ride.
We canned the highest air over the box at the last minute due time
running out and decided to allocate that R1000 to best trick during
the Pro contest. Unfortunately we didn't get a usable photo of what
Paul did to win this but watch the edit of the jam to be blown away!
Paul Soderlund has balls of steel!
The final contest of the day was the Pro comp. Riders were split
into groups of 5 in which each rider had 4 one minute runs. Of these
runs the 2 lowest scores for each rider were dropped and the best
2 scores were averaged.
Colin
Loudon managed this flip turn down and a bad ass whip to flat before

The Pro contest met all expectations with huge tricks getting thrown
down that have only been thought of at that park. A massive thanks
to the sponsors for putting up a ton of product and money (FOX,
MONGOOSE, SNAFU, and RED BULL). Also massive props to Urban X skatepark
for hosting the event and Pro Ramps for getting the step up done
in time for the jam. On to Pro results...
